Terms and Conditions

Lavi — Torah Learning App

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Lavi application (“App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and the operators of Lavi (“we,” “us,” or “our”). We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. License to Use the App

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use the App for your personal, non-commercial purposes, subject to these Terms.

You may not:

  • Copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the App
  • Reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the App
  • Use the App for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Interfere with or disrupt the App or its servers
  • Attempt to bypass any content restrictions, subscription limits, or security features

3. User Accounts

3.1 Account Creation

You may create an account using your email address, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.

3.2 Guest Mode

You may use core features of the App without creating an account (“Guest Mode”). Guest data is stored only on your device and cannot be recovered if you uninstall the App or switch devices. We recommend creating an account to preserve your progress.

3.3 Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account in the App. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All account data will be removed from our systems in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

4. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

4.1 Lavi Pro Subscription

The App offers a “Lavi Pro” subscription that unlocks premium features including unlimited Hearts, unlimited Torah Chat messages, and access to exclusive content. A free trial period may be offered as described at the time of purchase.

4.2 Free Trial

If a free trial is offered, it will be clearly stated before you subscribe, including the trial length and the price that will be charged when the trial ends. Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of the trial unless you cancel before the trial period expires.

4.3 Billing and Renewal

Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account upon confirmation of purchase.

4.4 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your device’s App Store or Google Play subscription management settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods except as required by applicable law.

4.5 Managing Your Subscription

You can manage and cancel your subscription directly within the App via the Profile → Subscription → Manage Subscription option, or through your device’s App Store / Google Play settings.

4.6 Price Changes

We reserve the right to change subscription prices. You will be notified of any price changes before they take effect, and will have the opportunity to cancel if you do not agree.

4.7 No External Payment

All purchases are made exclusively through Apple App Store or Google Play in-app purchase systems. We do not collect payment information directly.

5. Content and Intellectual Property

5.1 Our Content

All Torah lessons, lesson content, curriculum, graphics, mascot, animations, user interface, and other materials provided through the App (“Content”) are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our Content without our express written permission.

5.2 Torah Content

Torah and scriptural texts referenced in the App are derived from public domain sources. Commentary and lesson structures are our original work.

5.3 User-Provided Content

If you submit feedback, support messages, or other content to us, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use that content to improve the App and our services.

6. Notifications

By enabling notifications in the App, you consent to receiving local scheduled notifications including learning reminders and Zmanim (prayer time) alerts. You can disable notifications at any time in the App’s Settings or through your device’s notification settings.

7. Torah Chat (AI Feature)

The Torah Chat feature uses artificial intelligence to answer questions about Torah and Jewish law. Please be aware:

  • AI responses are provided for educational and informational purposes only and do not constitute rabbinical advice, halachic rulings, or professional religious guidance.
  • For matters of Jewish law that affect real-life decisions, please consult a qualified rabbi.
  • We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or appropriateness of AI-generated responses.
  • Do not input sensitive personal information into the chat feature.
  • Free accounts are limited to 5 chat messages per day. Lavi Pro subscribers have unlimited access.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the App to:

  • Violate any applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation
  • Transmit any content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable
  • Impersonate any person or entity
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the App or its related systems
  • Use the App in any manner that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair it

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that:

  • The App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
  • Any defects or errors will be corrected
  • The App is free of viruses or other harmful components
  • The results obtained from using the App will be accurate or reliable

Zmanim (prayer time) calculations are provided as a convenience. Times may vary based on local conditions and custom. We are not responsible for errors in Zmanim calculations. Always verify times with a local authority or dedicated halachic source.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING FROM:

  • Your use of or inability to use the App
  • Any unauthorized access to or use of our servers or your data
  • Any errors or omissions in any content
  • Any interruption or cessation of transmission to or from the App

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US (IF ANY) IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Lavi and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of the App or your violation of these Terms.

12. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with third-party services including Google Firebase, Apple, RevenueCat, and others as described in our Privacy Policy. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and policies. We are not responsible for the practices of these third-party services.

The App is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Apple and Google are not parties to these Terms and have no obligation to provide support or maintenance for the App.

13. Apple-Specific Terms (App Store)

If you downloaded the App from the Apple App Store, the following additional terms apply:

  • These Terms are between you and us, not with Apple. Apple has no responsibility for the App or its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance and support for the App.
  • In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) to you. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the App, including: (a) product liability claims; (b) any claim that the App fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and (c) claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance, Apple will have the right to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

14. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, with or without cause or notice, including if we believe you have violated these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the App will immediately cease.

You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time.

15. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of New Brunswick, Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the App that cannot be resolved informally shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association, conducted in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. You waive any right to a jury trial or to participate in a class action lawsuit.

Notwithstanding the above, either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to prevent the actual or threatened infringement of intellectual property rights.

16. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, through an in-app notification. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance.
